ABOUT ME

ABOUT

Caterina Maina is a Providence-based artist engaging in fine-art projects with a focus on portraiture and environmental photography. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2020 with a BFA in Photography and a minor in Sustainability.

PHILOSOPHY

The child of an Italian immigrant, Caterina was raised with a love of understanding and exploring the unknown. She is greatly influenced by her personal connections, the political issues of her time, and natural history.

Caterina works primarily with a 4x5 Large Format View Camera. Her photographs range from examining the close relationships between her family and friends to exploring the natural world and the connection one has to it through landscape and portraiture work. Her work delves into the power of human relationships and one's connectivity with their environment while exploring the tensions that exist in society today. She recently became interested in integrating video and multi-media work into her projects and plans to eventually create installation spaces.

HER STORY

Since 2016, Caterina has taken a curious, narrative-driven lens to showcase the connection between people and the landscape.

Caterina has been featured in local and national galleries and has won awards and grants for her photographic work.

From self-portraits to environmental portraiture, Caterina loves to tell stories through the human experience.
